Pets have a tendency of getting lost. It may be running away from home or getting lost in a crowded place. Whatever the reason, Lost pets can be a major headache. You can take some simple steps to avoid this situation.

If your pet gets lost, do not panic. Begin your search immediately. Do not wait for your pet to come home. Begin your search at home. Look in all the vents and behind electrical appliances. Once this is done, search your immediate neighborhood. Talk to your neighbors and tell them a description of your pet. Make a flyer with a picture of your pet. Distribute it in your neighborhood and in public places like post offices and libraries.

Give your pet an identification tag. That way, if anyone finds him, he can be returned to you. Call out to your pet in your neighborhood. Take a box of his favorite food and try to attract him in case he is hiding. If your pet is frightened and has run away, he is likely to respond to this tactic.

You can place a lost pet advertisement in the newspaper. Offer a reward to the finder. Contact your local radio station and request them to broadcast an announcement about your pet.  Call the pet societies in your area. Inform the municipal animal control. Finally go to the police and lodge a report with them.

A combination of these measures will work in most cases to reunite you with your pet.
