According to N-R-G pet foods magazine, various animal foods are available in the market. You should keep in mind your pet’s age when buying animal food.
Watch what you feed your pet. Inadequate or excess intake can be harmful. For dogs, any good quality, semi-moist or dry dog food is adequate. Dry foods usually contain soybean, corn and rice. Some brands contain meat. Do not feed your dog cheap foods. Not only will it provide inadequate nutrition, your dog will probably eat more of it. This will create even more expenditure for you.
If your dog weighs more than thirty pounds, feed him dry dog food. This is because dry foods have more calories per volume of food. If you feed a large dog semi-solid food, he will have to eat large amounts of food to fulfill his energy requirement. This may be difficult for him and expensive for you.
Your dog’ food needs also depend on the kind of activity he does. If he is highly active, feed him food rich in protein and fats. Your pet’s food should be certified by The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). If the particular brand does not have a label saying so, do not buy it. This is important since AAFCO certified foods conform to certain minimal nutrition requirements.
Many pet foods contain nutrient lists for two separate profiles. One profile is for dogs with special requirements as in pregnancy and lactation. The other is for normal adult animals. Feed your dog the amount mentioned on the label according to your pet’s individual needs.
