Kaus are actually cows. Gentle and shy characters, Kaus love to feed on large green pastures the whole day. However, Kaus can also rise to the occasion when challenged for battle. Their horns are good enough to destroy their opponents. Kaus may appear a little dumb, but they are extremely intelligent. They can make new types of magical potions also.

The most famous Kau is Kauvara, a wizard Kau who prepares and sells magical potions. Kauvara has studied magical brewing at the tower of the Light Faerie. Kauvara's magical potion has the rare arbiter berries as one of its ingredients , which grow on Roo Island. The potion makes a pet more powerful and heals it of all disease. Unfortunately for most users, the potion is very expensive.

Leera Heggle is one of the players in the Altador Cup, who is the Goalkeeper for team Lost Desert. This tireless competitor is an honest trier, even though the results are not favorable on most occasions. Many Kaus believe that Leera is past his best.

Kalora the Kau is one who loves to play the game of Cheat! In this game, the players have to use their skill to get rid of all the cards in their hand.
