Chombies are limited edition pets which naturally come from the prehistoric land of Tyrannia. Chombies are shy creatures that resemble dinosaurs. They are most happy when munching on leaves and grasses. Chombies are extremely heavy; their footsteps can cause minor earthquakes.

Chombies have escaped from the prehistoric land of Tyrannia, discovered miles beneath the Ice Caves. In this world, you can find evil pterodactyls, rock concerts, and a Giant Omelette. The Giant Omellete is the result of an egg laid by a massive dinosaur many centuries ago. The Giant Omellete fulfills the food requirements of Tyrrania. Whenever the omelette is fully eaten, a new egg appears somewhere so that the inhabitants of Tyrannia never go hungry. One Giant Omelette is enough to produce one million omelettes. Players must wait for another egg to be laid before trying to collect again.

Tyrrania was invaded in a plot called The Tyrannian Invasion, in which Tyrannia was released to Neopia. It was the first war in which players themselves could fight for the safety of Neopia. Users participated in the plot by fighting the invaders in the Battledome against computer controlled opponents. Each opponent would fight until there were no more left to fight. After a massive earthquake in Tyrrania, Chombies were able to escape out of Tyrannia into all of Neopia, allowing users to adopt them. Many new games and features were developed in Tyrannia after this event.
