There are times when your pet shows disinterest towards food. Although this may be normal in the hot summer months, mostly it is a symptom of some other problem.

You should feed your pet a high quality, nutritious diet. Do not change the diet once your dog accepts it. Often, owners try to provide variety to the dog’s diet. This can cause him to lose interest in the food you offer him.  Changes in diet can also upset your pet’s digestion. Even if you want to make a change in your pet’s diet, do it gradually. Add small quantities of the new food every day and see how he responds to it. If he responds favorably, wean him off the old food over a period of 10 to 12 days.

Don’t give your pet too many extra treats. This can kill his appetite at meal time and ruin his feeding routine. Also make sure your pet cannot access any garbage cans. Garbage can contain toxic chemicals. It may contain polythene which can suffocate your pet. Moreover, it can cause gastrointestinal upsets.

Try not to give your pet human food. Also do not give him any food at the table. If your pet gets into a habit of getting treats at the dinner table, it can be difficult to break the habit. Ensure that no one in your family feeds the pet at non-meal times. Excessive pampering can lead to lack of interest in the meal that you give to your pet.
